General
- The Port of Tyne has 3 rail terminals including 1 intermodal facility, 3 car terminals, 1 international passenger terminal, and 3 major cargo handling facilities
- The Port's turnover in 2010 was in excess of £40m

- The Port site stretches over 600 acres on both sides of the Tyne with over 60 businesses based on the site The historic Tyne Dock was infilled using spoil from the second Tyne Tunnel creating a further 14 acres of useable land

Cargo - cars
- In the past ten years, the Port of Tyne has handled over 5m cars - making it the UK's number 1 car port for exports and the seventh largest car handling port in Europe
- The car terminals can hold over 30,000 cars at any one time
Cargo - bulk
- The Port's new £20m biomass facility - the largest in Europe - can handle up to 1.5m tonnes per year
- The Port shipped 2.4m tonnes of cargo in 2010, an anticipate this to be doubled by 2015
- In 2010 the Port of Tyne handled cargoes valued at an estimated £10billion
- The Port is expected to handle over 3m? tonnes of bulk cargo by the end of 2011, including grain, scrap metal, coal and biomass fuel
- In 2011 the River was deepened to 13 metres at Riverside Quay putting the Port of Tyne in the top 15 deepest ports in the UK
- The Port can accommodate 80% of the world's fleet of bulk carriers
Maritime
- Port of Tyne is responsible for the safe navigation of the River Tyne for 24 miles
- Over 600 small craft are registered on the River Tyne
- About 4,000 ships sail in or out of the River Tyne every year
- Almost 600,000 passengers a year use the International Passenger Terminal
Cruise and Ferries
- Port of Tyne can accommodate 95% of the world's cruise ships
- 19 cruise ships visited Port of Tyne in 2011 and 35 are expected for 2012
Logistics
- The fleet of 53 Port of Tyne trucks travels 4.5m miles per year
- The Port has 500,000 sq ft of fully secure, state of the art warehousing
- Port of Tyne's distribution fleet operates 99% on time delivery and can guarantee next day delivery anywhere in the UK
- The 20 acre container terminal can handle around 4,000 containers at any time - 800 per month
- The Ports container terminal handles in excess of 75,000 TEU (Twenty Foot Equivalent Units) per year
- Regular services operate from the Port of Tyne including scheduled feeder services connecting South Shields to Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Gdynia and Gdansk
Regional and community impact
- Port of Tyne has invested more than £100m to develop the port over the past 10 years
- The Port of Tyne is worth £427m to the North East economy, supporting 9,000 jobs in the region
- The cruise liner business is worth £44m to the North East region and supports 1400 jobs
- An estimated 50 community groups / 10,000 people benefited from the Port of Tyne's charitable and community support programme in 2010
Environmental
- The Port supports the Clean Tyne Trust - almost 300 tonnes of debris removed in 2010 of which 99% was recycled
- The Port of Tyne has achieved the Health and Safety standard ISO14001
- Actively working towards achieving Environment standard ISO1800
- The Port of Tyne is committed to energy efficiency schemes and is working towards lowering carbon emissions
