The Port of Tyne is committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of its employees and any other persons on its premises as well as minimising any adverse affects its operations have on the environment.

The Port of Tyne considers Health & Safety to be of equal importance to all other functions of the business and operates a Safety Management system comparable with OHSAS 18001; and the Port's Safety & Environment Department provides competent advice on all matters of health, safety and welfare to assist management, employees and their representatives in their tasks and responsibilities.

As such the Port insists that contractors and/or subcontractors carrying out work on its behalf follows its safe and environmentally compliant guidelines in addition to those required by law or contractual obligation.
