  • The Port of Tyne, one of the UK's major deep sea ports, is pleased to announce the appointment of Maxine Pott to the Board as a Non-Executive Director with effect from September 2011.

  • The Port of Tyne Reflect Awards has grown to become the biggest photography competition in the North East and this year sees the introduction of a new film category. Professionals and amateurs alike are urged to get their cameras ready to enter one of the newest short film competitions.

  • P&O Cruises return to the Port of Tyne tomorrow, when the majestic Arcadia docks at the Ports Northumbrian Quay. This Arcadia is only the second visit from P&O to Tyneside following the success of the Artemis which tested the market in 2010.

  • The MV \"Key Guardian\" entered the river on Tuesday with a cargo of coal and has again broken the record for the deepest ship to enter the Tyne.

  • The coal ship Alam Penting is set to smash all records when she arrives on the Tyne from New Orleans this Thursday. At 229 metres long the ship is the largest cargo vessel ever to berth at the Port of Tyne, and carrying 75,000 tonnes of coal the biggest volume ever handled on the river, plus it will set a new record for the deepest draft of 12.8 metres.

  • Port of Tyne Writer-in-Residence Michael Chaplin has been trekking the entire length of the tidal reach of the River Tyne, walking almost 50 miles from pier to pier. The finish line is in sight and the walk is expected to end on Friday 29 July at Tynemouth Lighthouse.
