Setting sail for the Port of Tyne is Holland America Line's Eurodam cruise ship - expected to arrive on Sunday 5 July to spend the day exploring North East England.

The visit marks the return of Eurodam to the Port's cruise terminal at Northumbrian Quay, having last visited the region in 2012.

During their time in Port the ship's 2,104 passengers who are largely Americans, Canadians and Western Europeans will visit the iconic attractions of Alnwick Castle and Garden, Hadrian's Wall and Durham Cathedral and City.

The visit is part of a 12 day cruise which sailed from Copenhagen on 25 June to Oslo, Kristiansand and Stavanger in Norway before sailing to the Scottish Highlands, Edinburgh and on to Newcastle and the Port of Tyne before returning to Denmark.

On board are five dining rooms, including exclusive pan-Asian themed restaurant, Tamarind, and the African-themed Explorer's bar, and elegant luxury jewellery boutiques. On the technical side, Eurodam features the latest state-of-the-art navigation and safety systems. And following in the Holland America Line tradition, Eurodam features an exquisite art collection by Dutch Masters and contemporary artists.

Mike Nicholson, Port of Tyne Harbour Master, said: "It is a welcome return of Eurodam, which at 290m long and 86,700 tons is one of the largest ships to visit the Port.

"We hope that passengers enjoy their time ashore in the region and we look forward to welcoming Holland America Line back to the Port of Tyne when the cruise line returns with more cruise calls next summer".

The Eurodam is expected to make her approaches to the piers at 6am on Sunday morning and is expected to sail at approximately 5pm.
