Lisbeth Lorentzen, 48 of Forest Hall, Newcastle has been awarded the Ribbon of Knight 1st Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, for her services to Norway.

Lisbeth who has worked at the Port of Tyne as a security officer for more than four years has also been Vice-Consul for The Royal Norwegian Honorary Consulate in Newcastle upon Tyne for 12 years.

The Royal Norwegian Order of Merit (Norwegian, Den Kongelige Norske Fortjensteorden Ridder) is the newest Nordic order and is often awarded to Norwegian citizens living abroad - its English equivalent is a Knighthood.

Lisbeth was nominated by the London Consulate for her outstanding service in the interests of Norway, and received her award in Newcastle at the end of April.

"It was very exciting when I heard the news that I had been awarded this honour by the King of Norway and very humbling. I am looking forward to showing my medal to my family when I return to Norway."

Lisbeth formerly worked at a tour guide for Fjordline the company that operated a ferry service to Norway.

"I have been working at the Port of Tyne International Passenger Terminal in some capacity for over 18 years, and in the role as Vice-Consul I was able to provide much needed assistance to Norwegian passengers. I have enjoyed it immensely and this recognition was quite a surprise," said Lisbeth.

Lisbeth is in the process of moving back to Norway to be with her family and said: "I will really miss the North East and working at the Port of Tyne, but I have many fond memories."

Geoff Gillon, The Port of Tyne's Director of Human Resources, said "This is a remarkable achievement. Lisbeth was a very deserving nomination for this commendation and we wish her the very best for her future new life in Norway."
