LAUNCH YOUR CAREER WITH THE PORT OF TYNE 18 Sep 2014

The Port of Tyne is looking for five new apprentices to join its award winning team, with positions currently available in cruise and ferry operations, cargo operations and warehousing.

Working within the Port's cruise and ferry operations you'll work to unload freight and help to load ships stores, in cargo operations you will learn the ropes in all aspects of loading and unloading ships and in warehouse operations you'll be helping to pick and pack customer orders.

Geoff Gillon, Port of Tyne Director of Human Resources, said: "With the opportunity to launch your career with one of our exciting paid apprenticeships and work towards a recognised vocational qualification, you will gain on-the-job training in a business that has delivered record results for the last four years."

The future is exciting at the Port of Tyne, which is one of the UK's major deep-sea ports connected to world-wide markets.

Port Operative Apprentice Jack Lloyd, 19, from Sunderland, joined the Port in 2013 and is working towards an NVQ Level 2 qualification.

"Apprenticeships offer a good alternative to university and the Port is a great place to work with plenty of variety and job prospects at the end of my apprenticeship."

The Port of Tyne plans to increase its apprenticeship positions by creating more paid apprentices in more areas of the business than ever before.

To apply for the latest apprenticeship vacancies you must be 18 or over, with a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above. A valid driving licence is also required.

"Investing in expanding our business operations and improving chances for young people is part of our commitment to the community in which we operate," adds Geoff Gillon.

The closing date for the Port's current apprentice vacancies is Friday 26 September.

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply online via the Port's website portoftyne.co.uk.
