Lights, camera...action!22 Aug 2011

The Port of Tyne Reflect Awards has grown to become the biggest photography competition in the North East and this year sees the introduction of a new film category.

Professionals and amateurs alike are urged to get their cameras ready to enter one of the newest short film competitions.

If you've got what it takes to be the next Ridley Scott or a raw talent for film making whatever genre, action, adventure or animation then you should enter Reflect to win £500 and the chance to see your masterpiece displayed at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.

Susan Wear, Director of Corporate Affairs, Port of Tyne says: "This year we have made it easy for anyone to upload a short film from YouTube to enter Reflect Film. There are so many people now making short films even just using their mobile phone and they are all eligible. This is a great chance to have your film seen by a wider audience and possibly win a cash prize".

Films can be submitted via YouTube, so if you like taking short films on your smart phone or if you have access to all the latest film making gear, Reflect Film is open to absolutely everyone. There is even a 16 and under category to give young up-and-coming film makers a chance to stand out from the crowd. All you need is a brilliant idea, executed well.

Northern Film and Media, is lending their support of Reflect Film once again and will be helping to shortlist film entries, Agnes Wilkie, Creative Director says: "The North East of England has produced some fantastic film making talent and is a hotbed of creative energy, the competition is likely to discover and encourage new film makers".

Judging Reflect Film is renowned director and producer Geoff Wonfor, whose work includes The Tube, the Beatles Anthology, Eurythmics Live and numerous rock and pop videos. Geoff says: "I'm passionate about North East England and helping young people develop; I am really looking forward to seeing the films and wish everyone the best of luck with their entries".
