The Port of Tyne's Reflect Awards is one of the biggest photo and film competitions in the UK.

Potential film makers and photographers are urged to get their entries in before the closing date this Friday.

Reflect has a world-wide following but for one father and daughter from Newcastle it's a family affair.

Alan Warriner 55, from Throckley in Newcastle has entered the competition almost every year and was a runner up in 2009. Rebecca Warriner, 13 was encouraged by her dad to enter and has been a runner up in the Youth category for the past two years.

With the 2011 Reflect Exhibition currently on tour at venues across the North East - Alan and Rebecca recently took time to visit the exhibition at Bede's World in Jarrow.

"I've been a keen photographer for over 30 years, it's always been a hobby of mine and the Port of Tyne's competition offers a great opportunity for budding photographers to exhibit their work and receive recognition", said Alan.

And when the Port introduced the Youth category it didn't take much to get Rebecca involved.

"I thought if Dad could win an award, I might stand a good chance too and I'm really excited about entering this year's competition - I'm aiming to make it as a finalist three years in a row", added Rebecca.

Sharon Thomson, Marketing Manager at Bede's World said: "It's wonderful to welcome Alan and Rebecca to Bede's World to see the exhibition and I'm pleased to say many of the museum's visitors have been stopping to take a look at the brilliant photos and films on display".

So far in excess of 100,000 people have visited the Reflect exhibition at venues across North East England including the Great North Museum, the BALTIC, Hartlepool Library, the Fuse Media Centre in Prudhoe and the Customs House in South Shields.

With just days until the Port of Tyne's Reflect competition closes for another year, and the £500 prize money up for grabs in each category, budding film makers and photographers, both amateur and professional are encouraged to enter.

The final deadline to enter is noon on 28 September, visit for more information.
