PUT NORTH EAST ENGLAND IN THE FRAME21 Oct 2013

Reflect - the North East's biggest photo and film competition - is back, encouraging people young and old to look through a lens once again.

Created by the Port of Tyne, the Reflect Awards has been leading the way for the past seven years in highlighting the exciting talent of people from across the world to capture excellent images and film of our region.

This time the entry categories have been refreshed to provide a renewed focus to really fire the imagination.

Susan Wear, Port of Tyne Director of Corporate Affairs, said: "We are delighted to announce the launch of the Reflect Awards. Over the years, the competition has attracted thousands of entries and we are hoping to break the record again this year. It is a great way to help promote everything on offer in our region and to showcase the creative talent of the entrants.

"We have made it very easy to enter so that anyone who has a camera of any type can go out and enjoy the area, take photographs or make a short film and be in line for some great prizes."

Entries come in from across the UK and beyond and provide a unique perspective of the North East. Last year entries were received from as far afield as Italy, the Czech Republic and Australia.

New categories this year include; Reflect North East Life, which encourages entrants to capture an image that encapsulates the very essence of life here. Reflect North East Nature, this category encourages photographers to venture off in to the great outdoors and explore the wildlife, the natural beauty, and landscape of the region. Reflect North East People challenges people to capture the people of the region.

For Reflect Film this time, filmmakers are encouraged to submit a short film simply capturing the North East in film. Films must be no longer than one minute long and must be uploaded via YouTube.

Judges will be looking for a good story structure to the film that can demonstrate creativity and originality and reflect your own view of the North East region.

The Reflect Photo and Film Youth categories are especially designed to attract young people aged 16 and under to enter and it's a great chance for young minds to put their creative talents in to action.

The Reflect Awards are now open and the Port of Tyne is appealing for people right across the region and beyond to enter photos and films see portoftyne.co.uk/reflect for more details about how to enter.
