Ellie Patterson - Business Administration Apprentice

Ellie is 21 years old from South Shields, and joined the Port on a Business Administration Apprenticeship in the Operational Support and Development team. She is currently in the final year of a two-year apprenticeship, successfully achieving her NVQ Level 2 and now working towards her NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration.

What inspired you to pursue an apprenticeship?

I had worked in various retail positions before, but wanted the chance to gain new skills and experience - and then I heard about the apprenticeships at the Port.

What's day to day life like as an apprentice at the Port?

The Port is a fast-paced and dynamic workplace; this means that I get to work on new and exciting challenges every day and develop in all areas of Business Administration.

What sort of projects have you worked on at the Port?

At the moment, I am responsible for the proof of delivery system for the distribution division and learning about the administrative procedures required for the export of Tetley Tea to Canada.

What is your favourite thing about working at the Port?

I love that I am constantly learning a wide range of transferable skills, which I plan to put to use in my future career.
