Container volume forecast to double by 2050
The Department of Transport published in January 2019 its forecast for freight traffic at UK ports, covering the years 2017-2050. The primary purpose of this research is to inform long-term strategic thinking for direction of the UK Ports sector.
Ideally located to support the trade of containers through Northern markets, the Port of Tyne has grown the volume of containers (TEUs) by over 25% in the last four years and forecasts the growth to continue in the next few years.
