PORT OF TYNE COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR APPOINTED AS CHAIR OF CRUISE BRITAIN

Cruise Britain has appointed Port of Tyne’s commercial director for cruise, Kate O’Hara, as its new chair from January 2022.

Kate, a founder member of Cruise Britain, takes over from outgoing chair and commercial manager at Bristol Port Company, James Stangroom. An industry expert with over 20 years in cruise, Kate previously served as chair of Cruise Britain from 2009 – 2013 and has remained on Cruise Britain’s Steering Group throughout her time in cruise. She is also actively involved in national and international cruise industry events.

Kate joined Port of Tyne in 2020 following a successful career in the cruise and wider travel industries. A Newcastle University graduate, she has held senior management positions at Teesside Airport, Leeds Bradford Airport, the Port of Dover, and most recently as CEO of London City Cruise Port.

Cruise Britain is Britain’s premier association of cruise ports, destinations and service providers and works collaboratively across the wider industry to promote Britain as an attractive and safe destination. In her role as chair until the end of 2024, Kate will work closely with the Steering Group to guide and support the association and all its members.

Commenting on her new appointment, Kate said: “Having been involved with Cruise Britain from the start, it is a privilege to reprise the role as chair, albeit at a very different stage in the life of the association. I very much look forward to helping the organisation to continue to move forward. The industry has had a challenging two years, and James has charted a successful course which we need to build on that work and look for opportunities and strategies to continue to build back stronger. I’m looking forward to working together with our member organisations, industry colleagues and cruise lines to ensure that Britain continues to develop successfully as a cruise destination.”
