The Reflect awards, created by the Port of Tyne to capture the essence of North East England in photos and film has been inspiring creativity since 2007.

This year, the competition has an excellent judging panel that includes BBC Sports Commentator Steve Cram MBE, judging the Youth Film category.

Hoping to impress Steve in the Reflect Youth Film category is Benton Park Primary School, whose year 5 and 6 classes were runners up in the 2011 Youth Film award.

And to help inspire this year's young film makers at Benton Park Primary, the Port of Tyne arranged a special visit for the children to explore the Port.

Alice Witherow Head Teacher at Benton Park Primary School said: "I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit the Port with the children. The Port of Tyne is full of activity and very inspiring for our team of young film makers who are all excited about making their film and entering the Port's Reflect competition.

"I wouldn't hesitate to encourage more schools to enter the competition, it really is a great way to stimulate creativity, imagination and develop ideas."

Susan Wear Director of Corporate Affairs at the Port of Tyne said: "Last year we were delighted to increase the number of entries from young people through school participation. The results were some amazing and inspirational photos and short films. Some of the teachers involved said that the experience was supportive of their work in the classroom and also great fun for their students."

The competition offers £500 prize money to the winner in each category covering the People, the Places and the Environment of the North East. With the film category theme asking film makers to show ‘What the River means to me' - any river in the region that is - and the added Reflect Youth category for under 16's there is a great opportunity for other budding young photographers and film makers.

Steve Cram said: "In this special sporting year I'm really looking forward to seeing how the people of the North East are actively captured on film".

With just one week until the competition closes on noon 28 September there's still plenty of time to enter photos and films. For more information visit
