Working for us

OVERVIEW

We pride ourselves on exceptional customer service. But we don’t rest on our laurels. We want to be the best at what we do – efficient, effective and adding value to our customers and the Port. To do that we need people who share that vision, whatever their role.

Whether working on the quay, in a warehouse, driving trucks, or in the international passenger terminal, everyone has a massive part to play in delivering great service first time and every time to customers who expect the best.

Across our diverse roles and jobs we need passionate, talented individuals who with support and encouragement will enjoy making a difference every day and reaping good rewards.

Our values guide the way we do things at the Port .

OPEN: We are transparent and clear in communication; we listen and learn

EXCELLENT: We take pride in delivering top quality service to the highest professional standards and continuously look for ways to improve

RESPECTFUL: We treat people fairly, with dignity, consideration and integrity

RESPONSIBLE: We are all accountable; we are trusted and empowered

What makes us different?

Our People

Being part of a team who are passionate about customer service, about getting it right first time and about helping each other.

Our annual employee survey provides the opportunity to get vital feedback on what people think about working at the Port. Many say that the best things about the Port are the support and respect they get from colleagues and the team spirit.  It’s the can do culture and the will to get things done and do them well that spurs them on.

We also like to get involved – social activities, fund raising, volunteering, being part of the Port of Tyne Community Action Fund panel or the Employee Forum – all make working at the Port a more interesting and engaging place to be.

We really think about what matters to employees; for example our many and varied health and wellbeing initiatives, such as raising mental health awareness and the provision of a healthy breakfast at work, came from ideas put forward by employees and lead to us winning the Gold Better Health at Work award.

All employees are provided with access to a health cash plan which enables them to claim towards the cost of healthcare such as dental treatment, We also provide occupational health services including access to counselling and physiotherapy.

Our recently launched Employee Awards have been going down a storm. Each year we recognise and celebrate people who have taken on training or gained a new qualification at our Insight staff conference. Could you see yourself on that platform?
