OVERVIEW

Vessels entering the River Tyne can be confident that the water depths are maintained as they are advertised.

We are responsible for monitoring the published depths in the navigation channel and at Port-operated berths as necessary, and for advertising this information. Our hydrographic survey service  and maintenance dredging operations are vital to this task.

Owners and operators of other terminals and operations on the River Tyne are responsible for the maintenance dredging of their own berths. To assist, the Port’s hydrographic survey service is available for third party hire and our 16 metre workboat, the Sir Bobby Robson, is fitted with a 6 metre plough for dredging operations.
