Tynegrain
Wholly owned by more than 100 farmer members, Tynegrain Agriculture is the North’s leading grain drying and storage cooperative. It has provided cereal growers across the region with direct export facilities to European and international markets for over 30 years.
THE CHALLENGE: Located on the Port’s estates, Tynegrain’s storage and drying complex dries up to 80,000 tonnes of oilseed rape and cereals a year, while its export facility despatches about 200,000 tonnes of products, including wheat and barley, to markets all over the world.
THE SOLUTION: Tynegrain occupies a six-acre site on the Port estate. The Port of Tyne has consistently invested in the infrastructure required to provide a first-class service; very large bulk shipments are handled swiftly and efficiently, thanks to the Port’s conveyor and continuous shiploader.
THE OUTCOME: Tynegrain recently signed a new 25 year lease and has plans to extend its storage area at the Port. The ability to load deepwater grain vessels competitively provides the region’s farmers with easy, cost-effective access to the international market. The Port of Tyne continues to support Tynegrain in introducing new products and markets.
