Our 2024 theme, "“Accelerate and Amplify: Making Innovation Happen.” focused on driving faster, scalable solutions through cutting-edge research, new technologies, and sustainable fuels. Each day featured engaging panels, fireside chats and keynotes from industry leaders. 

With the active participation of industry pioneers and forward-thinking partners, Maritime Innovation Week continues to drive meaningful change, paving the way for a sustainable and innovative future in the maritime sector.

Maritime Innovation Week 2024 brought together industry leaders, visionaries, and innovators to tackle the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of the maritime sector. Hosted by the Port of Tyne's 2050 Innovation Hub and partners , this flagship event spanned three days of insightful discussions, groundbreaking ideas, and collaborative networking, solidifying its reputation as a catalyst for progress in the industry. 2024 Event Details

Our event showcases innovation at its finest, featuring renowned speakers from offshore, tech, and industry leadership, along with ministers. Attendees will engage in interactive Innovation Live sessions, contributing to future maritime solutions. 

Supported by our key partners—BT, the Department for Transport, Frazer-Nash Consultancy, the British Ports Association, Connected Places Catapult, Hitachi, ORE Catapult, and the North East Automotive Alliance—this event explores forward-thinking themes aligned with Maritime 2050 and net zero strategies, showcasing cutting-edge technology for maritime applications.

Programme Overview

· Day 1: Maritime Futures (November 19th, BT Tower, London) Kickstarting the week, Day 1 dives into the future of maritime technologies and trends, featuring a keynote from Mike Kane MP, Minister for Aviation, Maritime and Security. Leaders from The Earthshot Prize, Maersk, DP World, and the Port of Tyne will discuss innovations in 5G, AI, and sustainable practices, highlighting the technological advancements reshaping maritime operations.

· Day 2: Innovation into Action (November 20th, BT Tower, London) With a focus on practical applications, Day 2 includes a keynote from Dame Julia Hoggett, CEO of the London Stock Exchange, alongside panels from global organisations like the Port of Valencia and Connected Places Catapult. Delegates will explore funding opportunities, commercialisation pathways, and scaling solutions for sustainable innovation, with sessions featuring BT, Ericsson, and the Clean Maritime Research Hub.

· Day 3: Innovation for People and Placemaking (November 21st, Port of Tyne) The event concludes with a focus on the North East’s contribution to maritime growth through skills and community engagement. Presentations from Hitachi Rail, Equinor, and Space North East England will be followed by discussions on clean growth and a fireside chat on skills development with the North East Combined Authority.
