Angel of the North

If you want to join the conversation on one of the most talked about public art pieces ever produced, go and see the Angel of the North.

Spreading its wings in 1998, Antony Gormley's sculpture rises into the air over the A1 Motorway in Gateshead and pierces the North East skyline with a pride that dominates our region. The largest angel sculpture in the world at 20 metres tall and 54 metres wide, it is seen by more than one person per second, 90,000 people per day and 33 million per year! Get up close to take photos or have a picnic with a proper view - it celebrates the milestone of turning 20 in 2018.
