Notice to Mariners No 23 of 2024 - OPRC Reporting

The need to report the discharge of oil into the river.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN

Mariners are hereby reminded that in accordance with the provisions laid within The Merchant Shipping (Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Co-operation Convention) Regulations 1998 and The Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Oil Pollution) Regulations 2019, the Master of a vessel within the Statutory Harbour Authority Area of the Port of Tyne Authority, who observes or otherwise becomes aware of any event involving the discharge of oil into the River Tyne, including approaches, must report it to Tyne Vessel Traffic Service and or Humber Coastguard as soon as possible. The same applies to berth operators and terminals.
